The bookshelf was rearranged With dog ears on certain pages Someone’d been leafing through Spider in my room The laundry once folded neat Had toppled to some degree I’ve got ironing to do Spider in my room I’m out to catch you and I’ll trap you in a jar I know you’re in here somewhere You cannot have gotten far A ring on my oaken desk Where coffee had sat to rest No coaster had been in use Spider in my room — The closest was left ajar A string snapped on my guitar The tuning was different too Spider in my room The waste bin held ashy flecks That dropped from a cigarette The stench said he smoked a few Spider in my room I’m out to catch you and I’ll crush you with a shoe I know you’re in here somewhere I’d skip town if I were you The drywall was chipped away The landlord will make me pay And likewise you will pay too Spider in my room

Cork bored Time stands still upon the memory of my corkboard 📌 I cut through realities like butter with a broadsword 🧈🤺 If I gave the end away, would you watch the shadow play? 🎭 how the sausages get made, sharpen up, tools of trade 🌭🤠 A criminal in retrograde, walk like Phil Collins, talk like Spock 🖖 I don’t believe in fate, no, I think you make your luck 🍀 Play around with crazy glue long enough and you’ll get stuck 🔮 I can be your J.B. Flethcer, I can help you deconstruct 👵🏼 Nothing is quite as it seems (the map is not the territory) 🗺️ My lens is smeared with Vaseline (can’t see the forest for the trees) 🎥 I’ll paint sound, if you’re listening (I think I may, I think I might) 🎨 You’re deep and wide and glistening ✨ Run it over and over, and over again, like a continental soldier 💂‍♀️ Scattered thoughts spread out like dots, across the week, over my shoulder 😵‍💫 Connected elemental spurts work a body ‘till it hurts 🏋🏻‍♂️ Push the fundamentals first, obey your thirst 🥤 The world may fall apart at the seams, ripple in an ocean of infinity ♾️ I think I may I think I might be living in a dream, dream, dream, dream 🛌 Nothing is quite as it seems (the map is not the territory) 🗺️ My lens is smeared with Vaseline (can’t see the forest for the trees) 🎥 I’ll paint sound, if you’re listening (I think I may, I think I) 🎨 You’re deep and wide and glistening ✨

"Is there a party where we can go to where I don't have to feel like shit? I'd invite you to the one in my head, but you wouldn't like the guests It's much better here; no one seems rude All the outlets are happier and the shadows wear swimsuits Everything is beautiful when you're young and broken Everything is beautiful when you're young and broken She thought you were a method actor, I looked down and barked, ""No"" Reading the chimes and overheard lines from all your midday soaps I keep telling myself, like everybody else, I'm looking for a way to incubate my larvae on the go Everything is beautiful when you're young and broken Everything is beautiful when you're young and broken Everything is beautiful when you're young and broken Everything is beautiful when you're young and broken"

about

Volume 1 of Painting a Song: Season 4, our 2024 monthly songwriting challenge.

The (optional) prompt was a randomly randomly generated room description:
This cramped, rectangular bedroom has mismatched metal furniture. The floor is wood and the walls are painted. Light is provided by ceiling lights. The room is done in a country theme in dusky colors and overall has a retro look to it. Among the first things one notices walking in are a few tools laying about and a corkbord [sic] full of papers.
